weekends

Weekends In The Country are recreation and respite opportunities offered from September to May. Campers arrive on Friday evening and return home Sunday afternoon. Sixteen uniquely themed weekends are conducted through the year with an extended Vacation Week held at year’s end between Christmas and New Year’s. Every Weekend in the Country sees campers enjoying the same variety, camaraderie and opportunities for learning provided by summer camp, in an action packed, theme based weekend developed by our creative team and filled with fun, new experiences, and friendship.

Registration will open on September first

Registration will open on September 1st

9/18 - 9/20 - Catchin’ Rays

We are welcoming back weekends with some fun in the sun including a basketball game on the court, a welcome back to weekends ceremony at the campfire, games to exercise your mind and we’ll  be spending some time to make a beaded wind spinner that can be hung outside to catch some rays of its own!!

10/2 - 10/4- Fun and Loud Laughter (F.A.L.L.) Game Night

Come F.A.L.L into some fun with us! We’ll break out the yard scrabble, throw some footballs during the endzone challenge, play some giant jenga and then we will get moving while playing the best workout game around, fitivities!! No matter what, everyone wins when we’re together!!

10/9 - 10/11 (10/12)- Passport to Adventure (Layover Monday)

Explore more while we go on an epic adventure! First things first, you’ll need to fill out the proper paperwork during the passport scavenger hunt. Of course we will need to learn bits and pieces of a language and what better way than to make a game of it? Don’t forget to take your travel journal home with you so that you can reminisce and plan your next journey!!

Layover Monday: Why don’t you stay awhile? Sunday is a fun day to try a worldly workout, do some painting of a famous landmark and spend some quality time traveling around campus to take some touristy photos. Sunday night we will travel the world through a game all together and we will get ready for takeoff again on Monday.

10/23 - 10/25 - Halloween Stage Fright!

Horizons traditions keep on with fun jack-o-lantern carving and our annual Halloween bash with costumes, music, games and prizes, but there will be some new fun too! There’ll be visits to the mad scientist’s lab, we’ll do some dancing and work on getting into character. Don’t miss out on a spooky good time!

11/6 - 11/8 - Harvest Festival

It’s time to embrace fall and get festive! Although there are many Harvest Festivals around the world, Horizons is holding one unlike any other. Gather with your friends to search for pumpkins, fall colors and more on the scavenger hunt. Put on your dancing shoes to do the Schuplattler and then settle in and get ready to join in on an Indian tradition of painting a brightly colored cow. It is sure to be an unforgettable festival weekend!

11/20 - 11/22 - Topsy Turvey Turkey

Are you tired of the same, lackluster Turkey celebration every year? Well we have just the weekend for you!! Some traditions are important and will be kept, but other things we are putting a twist on. Football? This year, it’s all about an extreme egg & spoon race. Getting crafty at the dinner table? You betcha! Let’s take a turkey trot before we sit down for a nice meal together. One thing that’ll never change is how thankful we are for you!

12/4 - 12/6 - Christmas Carol-oke

Come on, it’s lovely weather for some karaoke together with you! Let’s have a jolly good time celebrating the most wonderful time of the year with a snowy craft, a Christmas carol workshop, dancing, singing and as always we will bring joy to others.

12/27 - 1/1 - Vacation Week

Overall theme: Time Travelers
Let’s look back on a simpler time! We’ll be working our way up from the 60’s moves and grooves to the 00’s wild style. Take a trip through the twilight zone with activities like disco dancing, trivia, aerobics, a VW bus pageant, tubular tie dye, star wars science…all while creeping closer to the age of technology, the 2000’s!!! Come along with us on this wonderful ride!

NYE: Millennium Theme
Alright homeskillet, here’s the 411 on the party of the year! To end our time traveling journey we will visit Y2K! You’ll hear the top hits playing throughout the night, a room that looks like it’s been decorated by the tin man complete with a bling-full photo booth! Bring your best look to this poppin’ party, Booyah!

1/22 - 1/24 - Winter Wonderland

We are going to have snow much fun this weekend!!! Try your hand at salt painting, warm yourself up with a gym-less workout, and whether we make our own or use snow from outside we will make a snow volcano to experiment with in the science lab! After all of that we will get together for a relaxing wonderland yoga session.

2/5 - 2/7 – Fly Me to the Moon

Explore the wonders of the galaxy when you make and learn about constellations in the science lab and when you make a nebula all your own in art. Get ready to (moon) rock and walk during a game of finish the lyrics. Finally, unlike space, you will be reminded that we do have gravity during the rocket ship themed egg drop, 3…2…1….blast off!!

2/12 - 2/14 (2/15) - Valentine Mash Extra day Bash

Having a valentine is great and all….but when you come here you have more than that! Celebrating with friends, we will practice red hot salsa dance moves, heart print making, and we will even serenade our friends in different activities, so fill your heart with fun and join us!

Extra Day Bash
Stick around and stick together, we are going to continue the weekend fun! Make slime in the lab, exercise your heart with some cardio and participate in an open mic!!

2/26 - 2/28 - A Walk Down Bourbon Street

Get in on the fun this weekend and get this Mardi Gras party started during the dance! When the morning comes, make certain you are on your game, because we’ll be playing games like bingo and trivia and if you’re the life of the party you may earn a prize!

3/12 - 3/14 - Luck of the Irish

Are you ready to get your luck tested? We’ll be challenging you this weekend. You’ll be asked to make a course that a ball must travel and land in a pot of gold…can you do it? You’ll make a pretty as a picture rainbow pin and it’s a little tricky, but we are here to help! You’ll get a move on when you do the dancer’s legs workout. So, are you feeling lucky?

3/26 - 3/28 - The Return of March Madness

Aaron asked, and we will deliver!! Calling all basketballers, back by popular demand, it’s time to show off your skills!! We will most definitely be shooting hoops, doing practice drills and we will be catching a game to see how March Madness is unfolding…..we’ll sneak in some art and a basketball science challenge!

4/9 - 4/11 - Spring Together

Let’s manifest some warmer weather by doing some spring things! Hit a homerun, make a striking sun catcher to take home and help make garden accessories to get us ready to plant! Put your thinking cap on when it’s time to play yard scrabble! As for spring showers…let’s hope the only time we see them is when we learn about them in Science!!

4/23 - 4/25 - Going UP!

hink of this as your weekend getaway….we will experiment to see if we can make an unpoppable bubble (what do you think?), make art out of inspirational quotes, meditate and dance it out in zumba! If the sun is out, we are ready to soak it up!

4/30 - 5/2 – Groove Grow and Sow

You have not seen anything until you’ve seen Horizons’ community gardens! We will tend to them and add to them in preparation for the warmer season coming our way! After our work is done we will have the first campfire of 2021! Singing and dancing will ensue so you’d better come ready to groove!
